Congratulations to Eli Gutmann (Year 10) for achieving first in the ABHS/AGHS Science Week Fair Expo this week.
His project was a product of his amazing passion for Science and his love for microbiology. The project was titled "Rotifer Density in Hornsby Shire Water Sources" and involved research about microscopic invertebrates called rotifers (which he describes in his report as "charmingly bizarre and often ignored").
For this project, he spent hours researching scientific literature about them. On weekends throughout the school term, he collected water samples from water sources in our local community, meticulously mapped these samples, and analysed them with his microscope. He bought a device that would allow him to record videos of what he could see under his microscope and uploaded these videos to YouTube.
Please see the attached poster and pictures from his log book. I have shared these with his permission, and Ms Phan would love for our school community to view his work in the hope that Eli's passion inspires others to go above and beyond in the name of Science.
