Mathematics at Asquith Boys High School
Mathematics is more than just numbers — it's about developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills that will serve you for life. At Asquith Boys High School, our Mathematics Department is dedicated to nurturing each student's numeracy abilities while fostering a genuine love for maths and the intellectual challenges it brings.
Our passionate Mathematics Faculty is constantly innovating to make the curriculum engaging and relevant. By adopting an explicit teaching approach and integrating cutting-edge technology, we ensure that every lesson resonates with our students. From Years 7 to 10, all students have access to Mathletics, a dynamic software program that reinforces classroom learning through interactive practice.
We go beyond the classroom to offer a range of exciting extracurricular activities that bring maths to life:
‘World Of Maths' Day – An immersive, hands-on problem-solving experience for Years 7 and 8, where students tackle real-world mathematical challenges.
Mathematics Enrichment Program - Held on Tuesday afternoons, this program is designed for high-achieving students who want to further sharpen their problem-solving skills.
Australian Mathematics Competition – A prestigious nationwide competition held in late July. While participation is mandatory for top classes, all interested students are encouraged to join.
Maths in Surveying Excursion - Sponsored by the NSW Surveying Task Force, this excursion for Year 10 students (Stage 5.3) connects classroom theory with practical, real-life applications of mathematics.
National Mathematics Summer School - A two-week program in January for motivated Year 11 students, hosted by the Australian National University and the Australian Association of Mathematics Teachers, offering an intensive exploration of advanced mathematical concepts in Canberra.
Additionally, we provide homework help sessions during lunchtimes on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays in Room 6, ensuring that every student has the support they need to succeed.
Join us at Asquith Boys High School, where mathematics is not just a subject—it's an adventure!
