Music Ensembles

Asquith Boys High School offers a selection of award-winning extra-curricular music ensembles to extend students who are receiving, or plan to receive, instrumental tuition. Our school offers a combined music ensembles program with Asquith Girls High School, which has seen significant benefits to student learning outcomes, in addition to a more balanced instrumentation for each section of our bands. We regularly organise performances and extension opportunities for our students to interact and perform in a professional orchestra setting.

Some of the annual events that our ensembles participate in include:

• Music Camp at Crusaders, Galston Gorge, in collaboration with Asquith Girls HS

• Big Band Blast and Rural Schools Tour (previously travelling to Port Macquarie and Bathurst)

• Australian School Band & Orchestra Festival (ASBOF) at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music

• Schools Spectacular

• ABHS Community Fun Day

• ABHS MAD Night

• AGHS Musical and Musicale

• Wideview Fete

• Asquith Carols

• Formal Assemblies and Presentation Occasions

ABHS & AGHS Combined Concert Band

Tuesday morning at 7:10am – 8:20am in the AGHS Hall.

This band is for students in Years 7 to 9 with previous instrument/band experience.

ABHS & AGHS Combined Wind Ensemble

Thursday morning at 7:10am – 8:20am in the AGHS Hall.

This band is for experienced instrumentalists in Years 9 to 12.

ABHS Stage Band

Wednesday morning at 7:20am – 8:30am in Music Room 32.

This band is for students in Years 7 to 12 who either are current members of the Concert Band or Wind ensemble, or have had experience in performing jazz.

ABHS & AGHS Jazz Combo

Friday morning at 7:10am – 8:20am in Asquith Girls High School Music Room 1 (Terms 1 and 3).

Friday morning at 7:10am – 8:20am in Asquith Boys High School Music Room 32 (Terms 2 and 4).

This band is an extension opportunity for students who would like to further develop their skills in jazz, soloing and improvisation in a small group setting.

Rock Band

Friday morning at 7:30am in Studio 28.

This band is for students who wish to perform as part of a Rock band and already receive private tuition on an instrument appropriate to the style. This band is not part of our combined extra-curricular program, but is an enrichment band for Stage 4 students.

Funk Band

Tuesday lunchtime in Music Room 32.

This band is for students who wish to perform as part of a Funk Band and already receive private tuition on an instrument appropriate to the style. This band is an enrichment band for Stage 5 students.
